“First, let me start off by thanking you all for letting me share my passion with you. If you’re reading this you actually care about the moves I make. On Monday, I will start a promo campaign that will lead to the launch of my official website; DJNique.net. This will be my online home where you will be able to find all my original mash-ups, mixes podcasts and more. You’ll be able to keep up with me and even learn more about me. DJNique.net will launch officially on May 28th, 2012. See you then!”— -Nique
He never proclaimed himself the “peoples choice.” He never threatened to “smack your favorite DJ.” He’s a man that loved playing records and sharing good music; spreading the fundamentals of what DJing is all about. The man is a pioneer and forerunner of spreading love and a corner stone of the DJ and Hip-Hop culture. On Monday, the corporate powers that be took away this mans home. Kiss 98.7 FM was a important building block of the Hip-Hop culture. Its where the old heads went to relive their memories and its where young heads went to learn the history of where their favorite music came from. Red was and still is my favorite DJ. More than that he was my favorite teacher. After the closing of iconic record stores in New York a few years ago, this news came as another hit to the infrastructure of the Hip-Hop culture in this great city. As upsetting as this news may be, I have no doubt that Red will carry on and continue to build and contribute to the culture in any way he can. I’m looking forward to catching him at a Park Jam in the Bronx this summer.
